Q:  How do you know if your saddle is too far back?

A:  Your latigo will be at a drastic angle towards your horses shoulder.
The curvature of the pommel (or front of the saddle) should be over
your horses withers with at least a three finger clearance.

Q: How do you know if your horse is under weight?

A: There are many signs of whether or not your horse is under weight but some obvious signs are:

  • Their ribs are sticking out
  • Their wither is extremely noticeable (rather thin)
  • Around their flank- if it is tender
  • If you run your finger along your horses rib cage and you can feel their ribs
  • If their back bone stands out apart from their back
If your horse show any of these signs there is a chance your horse is under weight.
